I had someone dear to me pass away at the beginning of this week and it made me think about the “sum” of our life. They pronounced him dead and then the funeral director came and took away the “body” that to me was the beginning of his “no longer being”. We went through his clothes to find what to bury him in and looked at pictures to bring to the funeral home. I started realize that it seems like your whole life can be summed up in two days or less. When you think about the memorial speech it takes no longer than 15 minutes. A wake and funeral is no longer than a week. So here you are living this long life if you are lucky and summing up your life takes such a short time. You go to the home and clean out the “belongings” which consists of throwing out items or giving them away or dividing them. The things that were so important to a person could be garbage after death. But the one thing I did see ….is the people make the difference …..they held hands prayed and remembered the man that was their friend. It makes you realize worldly possessions truly are meaningless as they will not go with you at the end so cherish life and the people who pass through with you on the journey……… The life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living.
